Press Release

Vito Schnabel Gallery and Tripoli Gallery are pleased to announce the opening of Sunday, a group exhibition featuring Trey Abdella, Katherine Bernhardt, Katherine Bradford, Francesco Clemente, Mary Heilmann, Rashid Johnson, Christoph Matthes, Lola Montes, Robert Nava, Julian Schnabel, and Lucy Winton. Sunday brings together works that explore the idea of a day of rest and taking time away from the chaotic world we live in.

Katherine Bradford’s vibrant paintings, Swimmers in Surf (2024) and Purple Boat (2024), both portray scenes from the water, which is a central theme throughout her work. Faceless figures interact and float through colorful seascapes, reflecting on both leisure and collective memory. Julian Schnabel’s triangular landscape of a mountain in the Engadine, Piz Murtirol (2025), is a meditation on the beauty of our environment and the way in which we see and experience nature.

Sunday also contemplates the religious connotations with the day; Trey Abdella’s mixed-media work with the same title depicts a close-up portrait of a woman in distress as the background for a snow-covered church scene. In Robert Nava’s Zombie Star Angel (2024-2025), the artist confronts the depths and nuances of theological study and the history of angels in the Abrahamic religions and in ancient mythology.

Opening July 18, Sunday will be on view at Vito Schnabel Gallery in St. Moritz until August 30, and at Tripoli Gallery in Wainscott through August 18th.
